Coworking Toronto Day - February 24, 2015

Proclamation heading

Coworking Toronto Day
February 24, 2015

WHEREAS coworking can be defined as like-minded professionals who work independently, but not alone, within a collaborative workspace that fosters a sense of community and shared core values.

Coworking Toronto Day is a celebration of freelancers and entrepreneurs who thrive in supportive, productive and collaborative work environments and facilities.

Coworking has a substantial impact on independent workers. Global surveys conducted by Deskmag report that 58 per cent of members were working from home before joining a coworking space. The surveys also reported that 42 per cent of members join coworking spaces for knowledge sharing and 68 per cent of coworkers report improved focus and an increase in creativity. With 1.1 million small businesses in Canada, independent workers are discovering a new way to work that makes a positive impact to the local economy.

On this day, solo workers from all industries are encouraged to embrace their independence, think collaboratively, visit a co-working space in their neighbourhood, attend events and network with others.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor John Tory, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim February 24, 2015 as "Coworking Toronto Day" in the City of Toronto.
