Beginning his career as a Globe and Mail reporter covering Toronto City Hall and education, John Adams' experience with government has been in depth and varied. After working as an executive assistant in an Ontario ministry, and as a director of government relations and a private sector consultant, he was first elected to the city of Toronto council in 1991.
Councillor Adams was Chair of Council's Assessment and Tax Policy Task Force, which reviewed and recommended tax policies and related issues for the City of Toronto. He was a member of fifteen different boards, committees and organizations, and also served as budget chief, and as chair of the Toronto District Heating Corporation and Council's Nominating Committee. Mr. Adams also participated in a number of standing committees, including Economic Development, Land Use and the Board of Health. He has been involved in the Toronto Harbour Commission and two business improvement boards, and has been a Toronto Hospital trustee. He is also a three-term director of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
