How to Apply for a Marriage Licence

You can obtain a marriage licence at Registry Services which can be used anywhere in Ontario. The licence must be used within three months of the date of issue.

Follow these steps to apply for a marriage licence.


Steps to Follow


  1. Review the marriage licence requirements.
  2. Complete your Marriage Licence Application online.
  3. Download and print the completed application.
  4. Ensure both partners sign and date the application (original signatures).
  5. Come into Registry Services and submit:
    • Your completed and signed marriage application (original signatures)
    • Two pieces of identification for each partner from the list of acceptable identification (requirements). Identification must be original and valid.
    • Divorce documents, if applicable.


You can apply without your partner if:

    • Both of you have signed the application (original signatures)
    • You submit the required identification for each partner (original and valid)

If you cannot complete a marriage licence application online, you can print an application to complete later or pick one up at Registry Services.



  • $140 (HST does not apply)
  • Payments accepted: Cash, debit, credit card, certified cheque or money order payable to "Treasurer, City of Toronto"
