Toronto Parks hires the many gardeners you see in our parks and so much more! We have a range of positions from entry level jobs to jobs that require specialized skills, education and experience. Here is a list of some of the many park jobs that might be right for you.
Cleaner Heavy Duty performs heavy cleaning duties inside and around City facilities such as cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, fixtures and appliances, refinishing floors, setting up rooms, shovelling snow, cutting grass and other maintenance duties and small repairs utilizing a variety of heavy and light cleaning equipment and supplies.
Foreperson Parks 2's direct the work ofcrews in the delivery of parks services. This includes planning day to day crew activities, problem solving with staff, staff training, site inspections, monitoring contractor work, ordering supplies and liaising with the public.
*Note, there are other Foreperson positions specific to Golf, Plant Production and Greenhouses, Sports fields, Technical Services and Trades.
Deckhands work under the supervision of the Captain and are required to perform various duties on a vessel (boat) including mooring lines, assisting with mooring of vessels, and assisting passengers with information, boarding and exiting the vessels.
Gardeners prepare, plant and maintain flower beds, horticultural displays and plants in parks and greenhouses.
General Handyworker 2's perform various semi-skilled tasks that relate to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, construction and in general building and grounds maintenance.
*Note, there are other General Handyworker positions, including those specific to Golf and Parks Construction.
Greenskeepers maintain golf courses and related facilities. Their main duties include: operation of all equipment related to golf course maintenance, operation of diesel and gasoline powered equipment, setting up and operating irrigation systems, maintaining flower and shrub beds, performing routine golf course maintenance and cleaning and maintaining upkeep of fieldhouse and washroom facilities.
Grower 1's propagate, grow, plant, install and maintain various horticultural and native crops for displays including flowering, tropical and foliage plants, interior and office plants, park bedding material and native plants using various cultivating techniques.
Heavy Equipment Operators operate heavy motorized equipment to maintain City property, transportation infrastructure, parks, etc. They also perform maintenance and construction activities in parks, arenas, pools and other divisions when not operating vehicles.
Irrigation Technicians install and maintain park plumbing systems like irrigation, splash pads, wading pools, drinking and ornamental fountains.
Labourer 2's help with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of infrastructure, such as roads, vessels (boats), sewers and water, water service repair, sidewalks, parks, buildings, etc.
Leadhand for Horticulture, Parks, Ravines, Maintenance, Park Development, and Ski Hill Operations Leadhands organize and direct the work of staff crews in their area, and also contribute to maintenance, development and operation tasks like landscaping, turf cultural practices, snow removal, mechanical equipment repair and minor vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Marine Engineer 2's operate and maintain diesel engines and related mechanical equipment, such as marine hoisting equipment, on vessels. This includes inspection and making repairs to diesel and gasoline powered machinery and equipment.
Parks Handyworker 2's perform semi-skilled tasks required for the maintenance, construction and operation of parks, recreation facilities, arenas, pools, community centres, etc. They also provide direction and training to staff and operate various motor vehicles and maintenance equipment.
Parks Handyworkers 3's perform manual tasks in park areas, requiring some basic gardening ability. This includes mowing, fertilizing, litter clean-up, setting up irrigation systems and cleaning, maintaining and making minor repairs to facilities, playing fields, ice rinks, etc.
Small Engine Mechanics perform all maintenance and repair for small combustion engines and general maintenance in connection with mechanical equipment and facilities.
Sports Facility Attendants assist facility staff with overall building operation and providing a safe recreational environment for permit holders, participants and the public.
Support Assistants provide administrative support to Park operations in a Parks district or region.
Ticket Collectors sell tickets to the public, collect fares from ferry passengers and issue vehicle permits.
