Partnership to Advance Youth Employment (PAYE)

Sageena's PAYE Story

Sageena was out of school and working up to 20 hours a week but it was not enough to make ends meet. For several months she was applying for jobs online with no success. She felt unhappy because she wasn’t working in her field and felt that she wasn’t performing at her best potential, however this all changed when she heard about the City of Toronto's Partnership to Advance Youth Employment.

Through PAYE, Sageena participated in different workshops on topics like résumé writing, cover letter basics, Personality Dimensions and more. These workshops, along with the assistance of her PAYE coaches, prepared her for interviews with some of Toronto’s top employers.

“Being a PAYE participant and being a part of such a rewarding experience has taught me so much about myself and reinforced my strengths, values and skills. I’m still surprised that I possessed many qualities and hidden talents that only being part of PAYE could reveal to me.”

Sageena applied for four positions with financial institutions and had the opportunity to interview with CIBC during the PAYE Interview Event. Thanks to the coaching she received through PAYE, she walked into the interview with CIBC feeling confident and prepared to answer any question. She was hired on the spot as a call centre Customer Service Representative.

Sageena later decided to expand her knowledge within CIBC and apply for a new position. During her interview, she applied the same interview skills she learned through PAYE and walked into that interview ready and confident. Her interview went successfully and today, she is working as a Fraud Response Officer at CIBC.

“I can be anything I want to be, and as cliché as it sounds, the only hindrance from me being the best I can be is me.”
