Hillside Drive is a unique street with a discontinuous roadway and has been described by its residents as East York's hidden gem, an oasis in the city and feeling like a small town that is private yet open. Hillside Drive is currently the subject of a City Planning coordinated review for future streetscape improvements.

Study Outcome

A Final Report was considered by Toronto and East York Community Council on January 19, 2016 and was adopted with amendments. It was then considered by City Council on February 3, 2016.

Community Workshop Meeting - September 10, 2015. 

City staff reviewed the design options and attendees of the meeting worked in groups to provide valuable feedback on the project so far. The design options, staff presentation and workbooks used at the meeting are found below:

Working Group

A Working Group meeting is scheduled for November 12, 2015. The members of the Working Group were chosen based on interest conveyed at the previous community consultation meeting on September 10, 2015. The Working Group will review the preferred solution for the Hillside Drive Green Street project and identify any remaining issues for City staff to consider.

Members of the public are invited to attend the Working Group meeting to observe the discussion.

ExpandCouncil Consideration

On August 25, 2014, City Council adopted Item TE34.51 (Hillside Drive, South of Gamble Avenue – Green Street Project and Permanent Closure of Vehicular Traffic of Portion of East Limit of Hillside Drive).

Among matters adopted was the following direction by City Council:

City Council direct the City Planning, Transportation Services, Toronto Water, and Parks, Forestry and Recreation staff, in consultation with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the Ward Councillor, and area residents to address matters regarding the Hillside Drive - Green Street Project through the development of several green streetscape options and a review of the implementation requirements for each option as set out in Attachment 7 to the report (July 24, 2014) from the Deputy City Manager, Cluster B (PDF).
