Ward 14 Scarborough Wexford
Mike Tzekas had a record of over twenty years of dedicated public service, from coaching Little League to chairing public board meetings. In 1988, he received Canada's Celebration '88 Award for his contribution to community life and citizenship, and later earned the City of Scarborough's Volunteer of the Year Award in 1991. His understanding of the challenges facing people in his neighbourhood and his dedication to resolving their issues led to his decision to become a city councillor.
As a Councillor, he advocated tenants' rights, environmental causes and winter relief for the homeless. Councillor Tzekas had been Acting Mayor of Scarborough, and has chaired a number of committees, including the Telecommunications and Technology Committee and the Recreation, Parks and Culture Committee. In addition, he was vice-chair of the Economic Development Committee, vice-chair of the Board of Health, and a Member of the Mayor's Task Force on Crime Prevention.
