The City of Toronto is planning a 1.4km cycle track along Lake Shore Boulevard West from Norris Crescent to First Street, west of Mimico Waterfront Park in Etobicoke, Ward 6. The new cycle track will provide a safe connection for cyclists, and will close a gap in the Waterfront Trail.

Project Update - October 2017
As you may be aware, the City originally planned to construct the Cycle Track following the 2015-2016 Toronto Water Lake Shore Sanitary Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation, however this project was not completed until the end of October 2016. The construction of the cycle track was deferred to 2017 to allow Toronto Water more time to complete its work. A deferral also allowed for coordination with the TTC streetcar track replacement along Lake Shore Boulevard West, avoiding the potential increased costs of building temporary streetcar platforms and subsequently replacing them.
The TTC track work has been delayed due to site conditions, as outlined in Construction Update #4 that was distributed to local residents in September. It is anticipated that all track work will be completed by December 30th, 2017.
Now that the track work has moved beyond Norris Crescent, the City will begin the curb installation for the cycle track the week of October 30th. Crews will then construct the cycle track TTC bus platforms, add bicycle signals, delineate the cycle track using pavement markings, and install new signage. The construction of the cycle track is anticipated to take approximately 4-6 weeks.

The Waterfront Trail stretches over 1,400 kilometres along the shores of Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and Lake St. Clair, and the Niagara, Detroit, and St. Lawrence Rivers. It connects 68 communities and over 405 parks and natural areas.
In Toronto, the Waterfront Trail exists mostly through a network of multi-use trails and residential streets. In a few areas, the trail runs along major arterial roads. The long-term goal is to relocate the Waterfront Trail from these arterial roads, where possible, and provide a continuous route along dedicated cycling lanes, multi-use trails, and quiet streets.
A gap in the Waterfront Trail exists in Etobicoke between Norris Cres. and First St. where trail users must travel along busy Lake Shore Blvd. W.
To connect sections and enhance the safety of the Waterfront Trail in Etobicoke, Council requested Staff to study and report back on the implementation of cycling infrastructure along this stretch of Lake Shore Blvd W., connecting the trail from Norris Cres. to First St. You can access the report here.
The City is prepared designs for the cycle track, and reviewed plans with stakeholders and the public. These designs were presented to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee on March 1, 2016 and were unanimously approved. The report is scheduled to go to City Council for approval on March 30, 2016.
The City has prepared preliminary designs for the Lake Shore Blvd. W. cycle track. These designs were developed in collaboration with Traffic Operations, the Toronto Transit Commission, and other divisions to ensure the introduction of the cycle track meets the needs of all street users.
Cycle tracks are dedicated cycling lanes that include a separation between the cyclist and the adjacent traffic lanes. A bi-directional cycle track includes two-way cycling traffic.

A variety of barriers will be considered to separate the cycle track from vehicular lanes, including a low concrete wall, curbs, bollards, planters, and painted buffer zones
Gaps in the barriers will be planned to provide to residential and commercial driveways

On April 17,2014 the City hosted a public meeting at the Polish Cultural Centre to discuss cycling projects in the neighbourhood. This meeting focussed on:

Participants were informed of the City's goal to close the Waterfront Trail gap between Norris Cres. and First St, and were asked for feedback on the types of bikeways to consider. These included painted bicycle lanes, cycle tracks, contra-flow bicycle lanes, and bi-directional cycle tracks. The City also presented the results of the Preliminary Parking Study, which showed that there was low on-street parking usage on the south side of Lake Shore Blvd W.
