About the Award

The 2017 Awards will be handed out October 12 at the Toronto Reference Library's Bram and Bluma Appel Salon; the event is free but registration is required. Other free TBA events include Word On the Street (Harbourfront Centre, Sept. 24, 11 am - 5 pm) and a public reading at S. Walter Stewart Branch TPL (Oct. 3, 7 pm). The 2017 shortlist will be announced August 24.

Established by Toronto City Council in 1974, the Toronto Book Awards honour authors of books of literary or artistic merit that are evocative of Toronto. The annual awards offer $15,000 in prize money: finalists receive $1,000 and the winning author is awarded $10,000.
