Ward 26 Don Valley West
In 1989, a colossal development threatened Leaside which stimulated Jane to found the Concerned Citizens of Leaside with twelve hundred members to oppose the development. The developer withdrew.
In 1994 Jane was elected as Trustee to the East York Board of Education. In 1998, Jane joined Toronto City Council after winning the East York by-election and was re-elected in both 2000 and again in 2003 with an overwhelming 87 per cent of the vote.
Councillor Pitfield was Co-Chair of both the Homeless and Socially Isolated Committee and the Aboriginal Affairs Committee. In addition, Jane was an advocate for the environment, heritage, upgraded infrastructure, eliminating fiscal waste and reaching 100 per cent diversion from landfill for solid waste.
Jane was the founding Gala Chair of the annual Canadian Red Cross Power of Humanity Awards Dinner.
Jane is a graduate of Queen's University. Her business experience includes ten years with Procter & Gamble in sales. Jane wrote a book entitled "Leaside" about the rich history of her community. The quick sell-out necessitated a second printing.
