World Interfaith Harmony Week

Proclamation heading

World Interfaith Harmony Week
February 1 - 7, 2013

WHEREAS the freedom to observe and practice one's religion, individual conviction, faith or beliefs without fear is a fundamental right and recognized under the Canadian Bill of Rights.

On October 20, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim the first week in February of each year as World Interfaith Harmony Week. This resolution seeks to enhance a mutual understanding amongst all cultures and to eliminate every form of discrimination, intolerance and hate based on religion, faith or beliefs.

World Interfaith Harmony Week provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to commit to a message of peace, tolerance and respect for one another regardless of religious traditions or convictions.

As a city that prides itself on being one of the most multicultural cities in the world, Toronto respects and accepts all religions, faiths and beliefs that make up our diverse communities.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim February 1 - 7, 2013 as "World Interfaith Harmony Week" in the City of Toronto.
