The Intergovernmental Relations team works closely with the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada to advance the City's interests.

City of Toronto Act

The City of Toronto Act gives the City broad powers to pass by-laws regarding matters that range from public safety to the city's economic, social and environmental well-being.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities

Membership of the Federation gives the City access to federal government decision-making processes and consultations on issues such as federal revenue sharing and a national policy agenda for urban issues.

Federal Gas Tax Fund

The federal Gas Tax Fund transfers more than $2 billion annually to municipalities across the country providing a stable and predictable source of funding to support investments in municipal infrastructure.
