Aquatic Leadership programs teach you teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, interpersonal and problem solving skills that will apply in all facets of your life.

AL: Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST)
AST provides candidates with a certification opportunity that prepares them for the responsibilities associated with being aquatic supervisors, head lifeguards or pool managers. As a recognized standard, AST ensures candidates are familiar with the skills needed to fulfill the requirements of these positions. AST candidates will learn provincial regulations, legal responsibilities and the authority of a supervisor. Topics include: aquatic emergencies, facility management, organizational effectiveness, communication, supervisory skills and risk management. Prerequisites: Current Lifesaving Instructor or current NLS Candidates must bring a letter from their employer confirming that they have completed a minimum of 100 hours of lifeguarding or instructing. AL: Bronze Cross (BC) / SFA
This course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including the introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures, teamwork and use of special equipment. Candidates must be able to swim 600 m in 18 minutes. Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C are pre-requisites for lifeguard training in the National Lifeguard Service (NLS) program and Lifesaving Society Instructors certifications. Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid (CPR-B). If you withdraw from a program 10 days or less from the course start date, a 50% refund is provided. AL: Bronze Cross (BC) Recert
This rectification course offers Bronze Cross candidates who have and/or are about to expire from their two-year certification period, a chance to review and update their techniques to maintain current certification. Candidates are required to perform Bronze Cross standards in a practical examination component. Candidates must complete the 600m swim in 18 minutes or less, perform skills and rescues, and bring proof of original certification. Prerequisites: Bronze Cross If you withdraw from a program 10 days or less from the course start date, a 50% refund is provided. No refunds are given for classes or programs that you miss. 100% attendance and active participation are mandatory!
AL: Bronze Medallion (BM) / Bronze Cross (BC) / SFA
This is an intense program designed for individuals who have strong swimming skills. Please refer to descriptions for both Bronze Medallion/Emergency First Aid and Bronze Cross/SFA for further information.
AL: Bronze Medallion (BM) /Emergency First Aid (EFA)
Teaches lifesavers of all ages how to respond in complex water rescue situations. Bronze Medallion develops physical fitness, decision-making and judgement skills in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers demonstrate stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for all advanced lifesaving awards. Candidates must be able to complete a 500m swim in 15 minutes or less. The Emergency First Aid component teaches general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, CPR, choking, respiratory and circulatory emergencies such as heart attack and stroke, and how to deal with external bleeding. The CPR-B component teaches the appropriate CPR and choking procedures for children and infants. Successful candidates receive both Emergency First Aid with CPR-B certifications. Emergency First Aid is recognized by the WSIB. Prerequisites: Bronze Star or minimum age 13 years. If you withdraw from a program 10 days or less from the course start date, a 50% refund is provided. Candidates that have Bronze Star and are under 13 years of age can register for this course by calling 416-338-4386 or attend an in-person registration site on priority registration days. AL: COT/WaterART Aquafitness Instructor Certification
Candidates will be certified with WaterART Fitness International and qualified to conduct shallow and deep water aquafitness classes. Classroom and water sessions focus on developing skills in the areas of class management, basic water movement and variations, understanding the major muscle groups and their joint action and the designing of target training sets. Practical and written examinations will be incorporated into the course. This award remains current for two years from the date of certification. Registration fee includes: Comprehensive Manual with study guide questions, DVD001- the Art of Exercise Science, 40 hours (20 hours pool time), Certification Exam (theory & practical) online profile and certification diploma when successful with exams. Prerequisites: Minimum age 16 years and recommended Standard First Aid. If you withdraw from a program 10 days or less from the course start date, a 50% refund is provided. AL: COT/WaterART Aquafitness Speciality Instructor Cert
Candidates will be certified with WaterART Fitness International and qualified to conduct classes in disciplines in which they have been trained and certified. These may include: Personal Training Specialist, Weight Management Consultant, Aquatic Rehabilitation Specialist, Arthritis Instructor, Kids Instructor, Common Movement Disorders Instructor, Pre-Post Natal Instructor, Mind Body Instructor, Water Walking Instructor, Water Yoga Instructor or Water Tai Chi Instructor. Practical and written examinations will be incorporated into the course. This award remains current for two years from the date of certification. Prerequisites: Current Aqua fitness Instructor Certification and minimum age 16 years and current Standard First Aid. AL: First Aid (FA) Instructor & Advanced Instructor
The 12 hour First Aid Instructor course prepares participants to teach all aspects of first aid and CPR. This course prepares Instructors to plan and organize first aid and CPR courses and teach and evaluate students in the written and practical aspects of the course. Candidates must bring proof of pre-requisite awards. Prerequisites: Current Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid with CPR-C (done within the last two years) and current Lifesaving Instructor. Recommended: 2 years experience Instructing at Bronze level and Bronze Cross Examiner. If you withdraw from a program 10 days or less from the course start date, a 50% refund is provided. AL: Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructor
Through classroom learning and in-water practice, this course prepares candidates to help certified instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. Candidates are introduced to key principals of learning and teaching, and they master basic progressions of teaching. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. Prerequisites: Bronze Cross or NLS. AL: Lifesaving Society Trainer Course
Lifesaving Society Trainer course ? The Trainer course is the first step in the three-step process to be appointed as a Trainer for the Lifesaving Society. The course provides candidates with an understanding of the expectations and requirements to teach instructors, and prepares participants to successfully apprentice as a Trainer on the Instructor course(s) of their choice. Candidates must bring proof of prerequisite awards to the first class. Prerequisites: Bronze, First Aid or National Lifeguard Examiner or experienced Swim Instructor (has taught a minimum 100 hours of Swim for Life) or Official Instructor or Lifesaving Sport Coach.
