Equity, Diversity and Human Rights

Overview

The Equity, Diversity and Human Rights division ensures that the City's services, programs and policies are responsive to the needs of Toronto's diverse communities by:

  • providing expert advice to the City Manager Council, divisions and employees; aligning corporate programs (in line) with legislative requirements, policy commitments and strategic priorities to foster equity, diversity and inclusion in all City practices;
  • aligning and implementing key corporate and community initiatives to achieve service excellence;
  • administering human rights and service delivery complaints processes.

Aboriginal Affairs

The City of Toronto recognizes and respects the unique status and cultural diversity among the Aboriginal communities of Toronto. In collaboration with Aboriginal communities, the City hosts events and engages in intergovernmental dialogue on an Urban Aboriginal strategy under the leadership of an Aboriginal Affairs Committee.
