This schedule presently shows legislative dates only and will be updated regularly. 

Nomination Period

Nominations are accepted from Thursday, January 2, 2014 to Thursday, September 11, 2014, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.

Locations: City Hall, 100 Queen Street West,1st floor North

                 Election Services, 89 Northline Rd.

On Nomination Day (Friday, September 12), nominations may only be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chamber.

Campaign Period 

The campaign period begins on January 2, 2014 or when a candidate files a nomination paper, whichever is later. The campaign period ends on December 31, 2014 unless the candidate withdraws the nomination, the Clerk rejects the nomination or the candidate continues the campaign to erase a deficit.

Campaign Office Signs

Campaign office signs may be erected starting July 29, 2014.

Candidates running for mayor may have no more than four campaign offices in the City.  Candidates running for councillor or school trustee may have no more than one campaign office in the ward where the candidate is running for office.

Voters' List

The Clerk shall post the voters' list for revisions. Candidates can obtain their free copy of the voters' list through MyCampaign or visit the office at City Hall or Election Services, 89 Northline Road.

Ward maps and List of Voting Places

Candidates may obtain their ward map(s) and list of voting places through MyCampaign or pick up paper copies at the Elections Office.

Revision to the Voters' List - Application to Remove an Elector's Name

An individual may make an application to remove an elector's name from the voters' list. The Clerk will determine if the name is to be removed.

Tuesday, September 2, 2014 to Monday, October 27, 2014

Revision Period

Eligible electors whose names are not on the voters' list or whose names are shown incorrectly on the list may request to be added to the voters' list or have the information on the list amended by filing an application, along with acceptable identification, with the Clerk's office or at the voting place.

Friday, September 12, 2014

Nomination Day (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

Last day for filing nominations.

Change Office or Ward

Last day for candidates to withdraw from one office/ward, and file a nomination for another office/ward.

Withdrawal of Nomination

Last day for withdrawing a nomination. 

Nominations and withdrawals are accepted until 2:00 p.m. in the Election Services Office at Toronto City Hall 1 North.

Certification of Nomination Papers

The Clerk is to certify nomination papers before 4:00 p.m. A copy of the certified nomination paper will be available in MyCampaign.

Acclamation

After 4:00 p.m., the Clerk shall declare the eligible candidate(s) to be duly elected.

Proxy Vote Certificates

Electors appointed as voting proxies must have the proxy voting application form certified by the Clerk before voting on behalf of the elector.  Certification of proxy forms happen in the City Clerk's Office from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. 

During Advance Vote 

On each day of an advance vote, the City Clerk's Office will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the purpose of issuing proxies. 

On Election Day (Monday, October 27, 2014)

On election day proxy voter certificates are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Interim List of Changes to the Voters' List

The Interim List of Changes to the Voters' List is may be accessed through MyCampaign or available for pickup at Election Services.

Certificate of Maximum Campaign Spending Limit, Final Amount

The Clerk shall provide the certificate of maximum campaign expense limit, final amount, to all candidates. The certificate will be available through MyCampaign.

Logic and Accuracy Testing of Vote Counting Equipment

Candidates have the opportunity to view the testing of the vote counting equipment at Toronto Elections Office, 89 Northline Road during the following dates and times:

Official Results

The Clerk will publicly declare to be elected the candidate having the highest number of votes for the office.  The official results and poll by poll results will be posted at www.toronto.ca/elections.

End of Campaign Period

This is the end of the campaign period unless the candidate withdraws the nomination, the nomination is rejected by the Clerk or the candidate is continuing the campaign to erase a deficit. Candidates may not raise funds or incur expenses beyond this date unless they have a deficit and have notified the Clerk of the extension to the campaign period.

Notification to the Clerk of a Deficit and Continuation of Campaign Period

If a candidate has a deficit by the end of their campaign and wishes to continue campaigning to eliminate the deficit, the candidate must submit the Notice of Campaign Extension Period (Form 6), in person, on or before December 31, 2014. Failure to do so will mean that the campaign period automatically ends on this date.

Candidates who file a Notice of Extension of Campaign Period (Form 6) must file a primary and supplementary financial statement.

Notice of Financial Filing Requirements and Penalties

A notice will be sent by registered mail to all candidates. This notice outlines the rules and dates for filing financial statements and penalties incurred for non-compliance.

Last Day to apply to the Court for a filing extension (Primary financial statement)

Last day for a candidate to apply to the Ontario Court of Justice to have their financial filing deadline extended for a maximum of 90 days.

Friday, March 27, 2015

Deadline for Filing of Financial Statements (2:00 p.m.)

All nominated candidates must file their preliminary financial statement by this date. The statement covers the period from the day the candidate filed their nomination paper until December 31, 2014.

A candidate must notify the Clerk, in writing, of any Court extension by 2:00 p.m.

Penalties commence at 2:01 p.m.

First Day to Apply for a Compliance Audit on a Primary Financial Filing (after 2:00 p.m.)

Any eligible elector in the City of Toronto that believes a candidate may have contravened the Act relating to campaign finances, may request a compliance audit.

This is the final day contributors can submit their rebate application for any contributions made to Council candidates for the 2014 election.  Election Services must receive their application no later than 4:30 p.m. on this date.
