International Day of People with Disabilities

WHEREAS the International Day of People with Disabilities promotes an understanding of disability issues and increases awareness of the gains to be derived from integrating people with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
The City of Toronto is committed to supporting the goals of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) by implementing policies and plans related to the identification, prevention and removal of barriers to people with disabilities.
On December 3, the City of Toronto, together with community, institutional and private sector partners, will commemorate International Day of People with Disabilities and celebrate the achievements of “Unsung Heroes” for their contributions to persons with disabilities.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim December 3, 2010 as “International Day of People with Disabilities.”
