Eligibility Requirements for Chute Closure Permit:

  • The building must be receiving City of Toronto collection services
  • Sufficient space for storage of un-compacted waste containers on the property (if applicable)
  • Sufficient space for storage of recycling containers on the property

In-suite recycling containers must be obtained, distributed and promoted at least six (6) months prior to the initial application.

For full details, read Chapter 844, Article 8, Closure of Garbage Chutes

Closing your garbage chute makes disposal of Blue Bin recycling, Green Bin organics and garbage equally convenient for residents and helps to contribute to a healthy environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

It also helps to reduce contamination in the waste stream.

There are six documents in the application package. It is important to download and review each of these documents.
