World AIDS Day in the City of Toronto
December 1, 2010
WHEREAS thousands of people worldwide die each day from AIDS, an illness that is preventable and treatable with the use of anti-retroviral medication.
The global pandemic of HIV/AIDS has serious consequences for this and future generations. It is estimated that more than 33 million people are living with HIV, including men, women and children around the world.
Many Toronto-based charities have worked tirelessly to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS in our community, raise funds and provide resources to help those affected around the world.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Rob Ford, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim December 1, 2010 as “World AIDS Day in the City of Toronto” and encourage everyone to increase their awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS and the need to work together to stop the spread of this disease across the globe.
