The City of Toronto, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, is studying potential improvements to the interchange between Yonge Street and Highway 401.
The study will address the following:
- safety and traffic concerns along Yonge Street and its accesses to/from Highway 401 (along with potential effects on the highway itself)
- deficiencies in the area’s cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, given the lack of direct connections
The feasibility study includes a detailed analysis of the operational and safety aspects of several interchange options. A key element of the feasibility study is the need to improve access and mobility for all travel modes along the Yonge Street corridor, including transit users, cyclists and walkers.
The public open house previously planned for the late spring 2015 has been postponed until further notice. Recommendations from the Yonge Street - Highway 401 Interchange Improvements feasibility study and potential next steps, are under discussion between the City of Toronto and Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Updates will be published once further decisions are made.
