Interfaith Harmony Week
February 1- 7, 2016
WHEREAS on October 20, 2010, World Interfaith Harmony Week was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. It called for all member states to support the spreading of a message of interfaith harmony and goodwill throughout the world’s churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship.
Since 2012, Interfaith Harmony Week has become an important part of the interfaith fabric of Toronto. It has helped to bring faith communities together in the spirit of respect and acceptance, while encouraging them to learn more about each other and find ways to work together.
As one of the world’s most multicultural cities, Toronto has become a model city where all religions, faiths and beliefs that make up our diverse communities are respected and accepted.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor John Tory, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim February 1 – 7, 2016 as "Interfaith Harmony Week" in the City of Toronto.
