Ferry Service Disruption
Ferry service to Toronto Island is running on a reduced schedule due to a mechanical problem with the Ongiara ferry. Repairs to the ferry are underway. Further updates will follow as developments occur. We appreciate your patience while we work to resume regular service.

The City of Toronto's ferry service carries 1.2 million passengers annually over 365 days a year. In particular, between the May and September long weekends, the ferries carry approximately 1 million passengers. The ferry service recently underwent a significant security upgrade to meet new security requirement from Transport Canada.
On beautiful, sunny days the Islands are a major attraction. It is best to arrive in the morning to shorten your trip across and avoid lineups. Toronto's ferries can carry more than 4,000 passengers an hour to and from the Islands.
The whole of the ferry service is wheel chair accessible. All newly designed ticket booths, washrooms and waiting shelters are accessible for both the public and if necessary the staff who work within them. All of the City of Toronto ferry service has been made fully accessible for wheelchairs.
Parks, Forestry & Recreation (PF&R) recently upgraded the terminal's enclosed waiting shelter so that about 100 people can stay cool or dry while enjoying a new collection of public art. PF&R has also created a ferry reserve fund to support the purchase of a new vessel with more passenger capacity in future years. In 2012 we put $500,000 into this fund. Looking forward, PF&R is acquiring a new ticket purchase system so that tickets can be purchased online and at a kiosk. This will be in place for the 2014 season.
