Driving School Owner and Operator

As per Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 545, Licensing, driving schools are businesses which instruct people on how to operate motor vehicles.  Persons who own or operate driving schools, or those who are driving instructors, require a licence.

How to apply

Applicants must apply in person at the Licence & Permit Issuing Office. To apply, applicants must pay the appropriate application fee.

What you need to apply

In addition to the general application requirements outlined here, driving school instructors must possess an insurance policy of at least $2,000,000 exclusive of interest and costs against loss or damage resulting from bodily injury to or death of one or more persons and loss of or damage to property; with a provision for passenger hazards of at least $2,000,000, which includes the carrying of passengers for compensation or hire for the use of a driving school. The owner must also provide driving school vehicle information.
